ABOUT THE JUROR: Native Texan and Dallas resident, Melissa Ellis, is a palette knife painter specializing in sculptural oil paintings on canvas. Her bold use of color is apparent in all of her work, from her large-scale, multicolored patterned work to her stark black & white pieces. She has developed a unique style of painting by using palette knives to create beautifully distinct patterns, shapes and designs with thick textural oil paint. Melissa’s work is often described as ‘organized chaos’, referring to the spontaneous yet highly calculated and meticulous processes she uses to create motion, patterns, texture and depth in her work.
