Thank you and see you at the 64th Annual Membership Show.
A group of about 20 TVAA members and their guests took a tour of the new ATT Performing Arts Center on February 22. It was a delightful and entertaining insight into this part of the arts district led by director of operations, Russell Read. His enthusiasm for the excellence of the details of the Wiley and Windspear was contagious and everyone was inspired to make use of this wonderful venue. (Yes, Russell can really walk on water). Our many thanks to Russell for taking the time to lead this tour.
The TVAA February Membership Meeting is a sponsored tour of the Performing Arts Center in Downtown Dallas on Tuesday, February 22nd. All interested parties will meet at the Parking Lot of Royal Lane Baptist Church at 11:30 am and carpool to One Arts Plaza where we will have lunch at Jorge’s Restaurant, dutch treat. After lunch we will be led on a tour of the Wyly Theater and the Winspear Opera House.
If anyone chooses to meet at the restaurant and not carpool, that is okay as well. There is no charge for this tour and guests are welcome. Please email reservations to Liz Netherland.

The TVAA mission is to encourage artists and to promote art in Texas.
Enriching the Dallas art scene: The Texas Visual Arts Association inspires communication and cooperation between artists and the Dallas community by providing exhibitions in painting, sculpture, printmaking, pastels, watercolors, computer generated art, photography, and mixed media. TVAA offers educational workshops, seminars, and tours of major museum and private collections. TVAA served in promoting the development of the Dallas Arts District and The Contemporary, originally known as D’Art. It has a history of supporting worthwhile causes including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the SPCA of Texas, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.
The Texas Visual Arts Association sponsors several annual exhibitions: a Membership Exhibition, a National or Regional Open Exhibition, a Citation Exhibition for members only, and a Signature Member Exhibition. In addition, an Annual High School Exhibition is sponsored by TVAA, encouraging students from the Dallas area to compete for awards and scholarships. All these exhibits are judged by qualified art critics, museum directors and curators, gallery owners, and art educators.
Since 1947, the organization was known as the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Fine Arts Association. In 1986 it was reincorporated as the Texas Visual Arts Association (TVAA) and acquired a new state leadership with members from east, south and west Texas. The organization maintains approximately 300 members each year, all in diverse media, to produce the most interesting exhibitions for the community.
Bringing art into public spaces:In 2001 and 2002 TVAA was invited by NorthPark Center to open an art gallery for the holidays in cooperation with the Texas Sculpture Association and the Southwest Watercolor Society. Under the supervision of TVAA, the Signature Gallery was a great success with sales for many of the Signature Members of all three associations.
In August of 2006, the Texas Visual Arts Association was invited by the Plaza of the Americas in downtown Dallas to open a gallery on its main floor. This has given TVAA and the Plaza of the Americas the opportunity to become a viable part of the Dallas Arts District. It also offers TVAA members opportunities to exhibit with changing monthly exhibitions and to showcase artistic talent.
Benefits of TVAA membership include the opportunity to belong to an established and respected organization with over 60 years in the Dallas Arts Community. You will also enjoy:
- Participation in TVAA sponsored exhibits and events.
- Access to monthly TVAA Board meetings.
- Email alerts of calls for entry, news of workshops and other art related events.
- A free link to your existing website.
- Or membership rates for a linked gallery-style web page to display your artwork.
- Quarterly issues of Brushstrokes Newsletter featuring stories, profiles of members, and current information of interest to the artists.
- Signature status point accrual.

TVAA Mission: To encourage artists and to promote art in Texas.
TVAA artists display their work in many desirable commercial locations, thanks to the committed work of volunteers and the generosity of sponsors.
Annual exhibits include: the spring Member Show, the Citation Show in the fall and a Spring High School Show. There are additional exhibits, some are open shows that accept entries by non-members.
The TVAA Downtown Gallery holds twelve exhibits, one each month. These are often themed, curated shows that allow additional opportunities for members to show their artwork.
To become a Signature Member is an honor worthy of the time and dedication involved in reaching that goal. Upon obtaining Signature status, works of the members are included in exclusive Signature Member Exhibitions, and those members are entitled the use of the letters “TVAA” after their name to signify their achievement.
To qualify, an artist must be an active member and be chosen to show in five juried TVAA exhibitions. Each show, regardless of the number of entries per show, counts as one credit. This does not include curated gallery shows or exhibitions.
Signature status may take several years to accomplish. Certificates of Accomplishment are presented every year at the Citation Exhibition held in the Fall.
