Charissa N. Terranova is Assistant Professor of Aesthetic Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and a freelance curator and critic. The founding Director and Curator of Centraltrak: The UT Dallas Artists Residency.

2013 High School Show (Mar-Apr)


Believing that Texas has in its young people a reservoir of creative ability equal to that to be found anywhere, Texas Visual Arts Association is offering this competition to enable and encourage gifted high school students to seek further training in art.

This year the exhibit takes place at TAG Gallery located on the second floor of the Performing Arts Building at Trinity Christian Academy located at 17001 Addison Road in Addison, Texas.

The jurors will select at least 100 works for the exhibition, and will then select winners from the accepted works.

Exhibit: Monday, March 25th to Sunday, April 14th
TAG Gallery Space hours are 8:00 am – 4:30
Reception: April 14th 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm Awards Reception for students, families, teachers and the general public. Presentation of Awards will be at 3:30.

TVAA New Members Exhibition. Each year TVAA recognizes new members of the organization with their own exhibition. The TVAA Downtown Gallery invites all artists who have joined TVAA during 2012 to show their work in the New Members Exhibition.

Show Details

  • October 8th, Deadline for entries by 5:00 p.m.
    Artists will be able to pay submission fees and membership fee online this year
  • October 15th, Artists Will be Notified by e-mail if they were/or were not accepted into this exhibit. Those who don’t have e-mail will be telephoned – be sure to include your
    phone number!
  • November 3rd, Artists will deliver their work to PFAMily Arts between the hours of 11 am to 12 Noon.
  • November 6th, Exhibit opens
  • November 24th, Reception at 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    Awards presented at 7:30 p.m.
  • December 14th, Exhibit closes
  • December 15th, Artists pick up work 11-12 Noon

Reception & Awards Ceremony
Sunday, May 13, 2 to 4 pm

Over $1,500 in cash and merchandise will be awarded. This is an all-media exhibition. Entry is open to all members and artists may join TVAA at time of entry. Every member may exhibit one piece of art so plan to participate. Deliver art on May 5th, 10 am to noon. A portion of art sales will benefit Medical City.

Prospectus PDF

Barnaby Fitzgerald is a dedicated life-long artist, teacher, writer and lecturer. Born in New York City, he grew up in Italy and Ireland.

He received the degree of Magistero, Printmaking from the Istituto d’Arte Statale, Urbino, Italy in 1973. He has a BFA in Painting the Boston University School for the Arts, and an MFA in Painting-Printmaking from the Yale University School of Art.

He currently teaches Painting at SMU in Dallas, Texas and has studios in Dallas, Perugia, Italy and Lome, the Togolese Republic in Africa.

He is represented by Meredith Long and Co. in Houston and by the Valley House Gallery Dallas, Texas. Visit his web site at

Believing that Texas has in its young people a reservoir of creative ability equal to that to be found anywhere, Texas Visual Arts Association is offering this competition to enable and encourage gifted high school students to seek further training in art.

Niloo Javiland, Instructor and sponsor of Nu-Works program at Booker T Washington High School for Performing & Visual Arts.
Greg Metz, Sr Lecturer of Studio Arts Program and Gallery Director at UT Dallas Main Gallery.
John Pomara, Professor of Painting at UT Dallas, currently shows with Barry Whistler Gallery in Dallas.
Diane Sikes, Dallas artist, Outreach and Education Manager at Dallas Contemporary.

The jurors will select at least 100 works for the exhibition. Jurors will then select winners from the accepted works.

The High School Art Competition is open to all 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students who reside in the State of Texas. The entry fee for the High School Art Competition is $3 per entry with a maximum of three entries per artist.

Intake will be March 31 – Apr 1.  Exhibit will be hung by April 5.  Awards Reception: Sunday, April 22, 2:30 – 4:00 pm. Students, families, teachers and the general public are welcome. Presentation of Awards will be at 3:30. For more details, download the prospectus, below.
