TVAA Citation 2018 Prospectus
The Citation Show is presented by the Texas Visual Arts Association and is a juried, TVAA Member-only exhibition. This year’s Citation show will be held at the Mesquite Arts Center in Mesquite, TX and includes cash and merchandise prizes valued at $2000.00. Acceptance into five TVAA juried shows grants the artist “Signature” status.
Submissions deadline: Saturday, October 12, midnight
Acceptance notifications sent via email: Friday, October 19.
Delivery of artwork: Sunday, November 4th, (10am – 2pm)
Exhibition dates: November 5 – December 1
Closing Reception: Saturday, December 1st, 6-8pm. Awards announced at 7pm.
Pick up artwork: Saturday, December 1st, 8pm after the reception

*Please note: Accepted works of art must remain on display through the duration of the exhibition. They cannot be picked up earlier than the designated date and time for pick up. Artwork not picked up on the closing date and time will be stored for a $10 per day fee and then considered abandoned after 30 days.
ELIGIBILITY / FEES
Open to all members of TVAA. Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries. All entries must have been completed within the last 2 years. You MUST be a member to participate in this juried competition.
All media accepted with exception to videos, reproductions, and giclees (unless for photography). All entries must be submitted as digital files through the TVAA website (www.tvaa.org).Entries should be labeled with first initial and last name, plus image entry number (e.g. John Smith first image would be JSmith01, John Smith second image would be JSmith02, etc.). Images must be in jpg format at 72 dpi and no longer than 1800 pixels on longest side.
Art may be reproduced for publicity purposes.
TVAA requests a 20% donation when a sale is made.
All artwork must be presented in a professional manner. Canvases must be framed or gallery-wrapped and all ½ inch canvases must be framed. Art work must be wired and ready for hanging (no saw tooth hangers). Fragile work should be under Plexiglas only, except for pastel. Size MUST NOT exceed 48″x48″ horizontally or vertically.
Artists must provide their own pedestal or display stand and attach their work in a secure manner.
JUROR – Mary Vernon
Mary Vernon is an emeritus Professor of Art at Southern Methodist University. Michael Frank Blair said of her, in 2017: “Vernon’s legacy is living a certain kind of humanist ideal that holds that the product of work is always a more enlightened humanity.” She taught painting and drawing, and SMU’s noted color theory course. She was born in New Mexico, educated at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Mary Vernon has shown her work in France, Hungary, Chile, and Kazakhstan, as well as nationally, and is represented by Valley House Gallery of Dallas. Collections that include her work are: The Belo Foundation, The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, The Meadows Museum, The Department of State of the U.S. (U.S. Embassy, N’Djamena,Chad), The Dallas Country Club, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center: William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, along with many private collectors
Juror will judge accepted entries and select winners, which will include Best of Show, first place, second place, and third place. Winners will be awarded cash prizes by TVAA, amounting to $1000 for Best of Show, $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place.
TVAA and the Mesquite Arts Center take the utmost care of all artwork while on display at the Citation Show, but neither TVAA nor the Mesquite Arts Center are not responsible for the loss or damage to any work of art. Entry into this exhibition constitutes the artist’s agreement to these terms and conditions.
Juror, TVAA, and Mesquite Arts Center will have authority to exclude any piece for any reason during the jury process. TVAA reserves the right to not show any works not deemed appropriate for public viewing.
I agree that my artwork may be photographed and/or filmed for public relations, educational, and/or other purposes.
Membership in TVAA entitles the artist to several opportunities to exhibit each year.
