In Full Color: A Look At Black History Through Art

Reception February 18, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
This exhibit features work from the private collection of Dr. Rick Halperin, Embrey Human Rights Program at SMU, Finally In Full Color: A History of Black Comics by Comic Book Historian Professor William Foster III, and artwork from The Echoes of the Lost Boys graphic novel as well as work from a new graphic novel on slavery.
Graphic novel artist and professor of cartoon art Keith Douglas will give a workshop for area teachers prior to the reception. Modern day slavery survivor Given Kachepa will speak at the workshop.
Students of these teachers will participate in a juried Human Rights art contest, with the grand prizewinner’s work being included in a new graphic novel on slavery.
All winning artwork will be included in an exhibition curated by Zane Steadman and James Disco at the TVAA Downtown Gallery in August.

NEW MEMBERS EXHIBITION

Each year TVAA recognizes new members of the organization with their own exhibition. The TVAA Downtown Gallery invites all artists who have joined TVAA during 2011 to show their work in the 2012 New Members Exhibition. There is no theme for this show, and all mediums are welcome. Each artist is invited to submit up to three entries.

The Citation 2011 exhibition is scheduled for November 3 – 27 at PFamily Arts in Plano. This year’s Citation jurors are JD Miller and Barbara Frey. The Reception is Saturday, November 19th from 7 to 9 pm. Awards presentation will be at at the reception. Guests are welcome as well as members.

2010 Best of Show, "Opposing Forces" by Bob Nunn
The Citation Show is a juried member show that takes place in the fall at various locations. The exhibit normally runs three to four weeks. Members may submit three works for consideration. There is an awards reception. New memberships are accepted on show entry day.
NOTICE: Our Exhibit has been extended through December 16th.

The Paper Chase will showcase art made of paper or on paper. Re-cycle, re-use, re-purpose. Get you thinking caps on and your scrap paper out. Put that trash to good use. 2-D or 3-D. Any size, any media.
Two month exhibit: the Paper Chase shows at TVAA Downtown Gallery during November, and then will move to ArtReach Gallery in Lovers Lane Methodist Church for the month of December.
